Following on from the successful Forge 2019 (and after a Covid 19 missed year in 2020), the challenge continues in the stunning surrounds of the Upper Rhymney Valley with its challenging terrain and commanding views.

These are the planned routes for 2021’s challenge series, and could be subject to change. Final routes will be confirmed in your entry pack a week prior to the challenge. If you plan on walking in advance, please note that sections of the routes could be overgrown/Impassable. Rest assured they will be all sorted by the 2nd of May
(Self led challenge and Led Walk)
Walk, Jog or Run
A Monster of a route and the longest in the Caerphilly Challenge Series… the self led 22 mile route will take you through spectacular valleys’, woodland, farmland, hill tops and riverside. Weather permitting; you will be treated to some fantastic views across the county borough towards the Brecon Beacons, over Cardiff Bay, the Bristol Channel, Somerset and North Devon.
Following on from last year: We now have a limited number of places available for a led walk at this distance i.e. ideal for people who are well able for the distance, but cannot read a map!
PLEASE NOTE: the down side of a led walk is that you will be expected to walk at the pace of the group.

Led Walk.
If you aren’t too hot with map reading and want to challenge yourself without getting lost, then the ramblers Cymru walk will be just the one for you. Enjoy the wonderful scenery of the area whilst being accompanied by an experienced Ramblers Cymru walk leader.
PS don’t be fooled by the shorter distance… this walk will still pack a punch and involve hills, mud and uneven terrain just like the 2 longer challenges.
(Led Walk)
If you don’t fancy so many hills, then shorter flatter led walks from 1 to 5 miles might be just what you are looking for. There is a £2 charge for the ‘Lets Walk Cymru’ challenge (all proceeds go to the Mayors charity). Pre entry or pay on the day, just turn up on the 2nd of May at 10.30, register and be ready to walk by 11am.
