Wild Boar 2024

This year Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Countryside and Landscape Service, in conjunction with Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, Caerphilly Adventure Group, Caerphilly Ramblers, Islwyn Ramblers and other partners, are once again throwing down a SERIOUS challenge for walkers and runners of all abilities. 

As always… The Caerphilly Challenge Series will have routes suitable for all fitness levels and abilities.

There will be a challenge that suits you!

Challenge options

(the routes are in the process of being planned/finalised, exact distances will be confirmed as soon as we nail them down)

Usually we have:

  • 1-5 mile route (led walk)* Entries on the day
  • 9-11 mile route (led walk)
  • 14-16 mile route (self-led challenge and led walk)
  • 20-22 mile route (self-led challenge and led walk)

Key Features

For longer routes:

  • Be prepared for walking in the countryside, these routes will take you across fields, through forestry and up some very big hills….. Given the weather we’ve had for the past 3 years…..Expect to get wet and muddy! 
  • THE ROUTES ARE NOT WAYMARKED….. You need to be able to read a map or be with someone who can!
  • For those who can’t read a map, led walks are available for limited numbers… although you will have to walk at the pace of the group you are in.
  • All the routes are STRENUOUS challenges that involve steep ascents and descents on difficult terrain. (except for the 1-5 mile… that’s along the canal
  • Minimum entry age is 12, all entrants under 18 must be fit enough to complete the challenge and be accompanied by a responsible adult.
  • Dogs are welcome, but must be under control at all times and be fit enough to complete the challenge.
  • Cut off times apply i.e. you will be required to retire early if you don’t make each checkpoint within a certain time
  • Booking opens on the 1st of September 2023
  • Entry fee payable: £12 
  • Early bird entry if you book until the 7th of January 2024:  £10
  • Extra £2 discount for entrants aged 18 and under
  • Water is available at each checkpoint
  • No entries on the day
  • Closing date for bookings Wednesday the 1st of May 2024

For 1-5 mile route:

  • No Minimum age
  • Entry fee: £2
  • Entry on the day
